Ambassador Gong Jinawei, Executive Director of CICA Secretariat, participated in the Belt and Road Forum in Beijing on 14 May 2017. Heads of State/Government from 29 countries, including President Nazarbayev of Kazakhstan, President Putin of Russia and President Erdogan of Turkey; Heads of dozens of International Organisations, including Secretary General of United Nations, President of World Bank and President of IMF; and representatives/invitees from over 130 countries participated in the forum. In his keynote speech at the opening ceremony, President Xi Jinping pledged full support for the ambitious Belt and Road Initiative to ensure transformation of the visionary initiative into practical projects. President Xi announced additional contribution of RMB 100 billion to the Silk Road Fund as well as lending plans worth RMB 380 billion by China Development Bank and Export-Import Bank of China. All the participating leaders and heads of international organisations extended wholehearted support for the Belt and Road Initiative. During the opening session and the following plenary sessions, a number of world leaders and heads of international organisations addressed the gathering of over 1500 people. In the post-lunch period, there were six parallel Thematic Sessions related to different aspects of Belt and Road Initiative.
