The 18th Summit Meeting of the Heads of States of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) was held in Qindao, People’s Republic of China on 9-10 June 2018. This was the first summit of the expanded SCO after admission of India and Pakistan. Heads of State the SCO Member and Observer States and Heads of ten International Organisations, including Ms. Amina J. Mohammed, Deputy Secretary General of the United Nations participated in the meeting. Ambassador Gong Jianwei, Executive Director of CICA participated in the Summit as an invited guest.
During the Summit, the participants highlighted main outcomes of the achievements of the SCO in last 17 years and discussed issues of current situation and prospects of the future SCO development as well as topical regional and international issues. Participants appreciated contributions of Chinese Chairmanship during last one year. China had organised more than 300 events relating to all the different aspect of SCO.
After in-depth discussions, SCO member states adopted “Qindao Declaration” and signed a number of documents related to the activities of the organization. Kyrgyz Republic assumed Chairmanship of SCO at the Summit and announced that 19th Summit will be held in Kyrgyz Republic on 14-15 June 2019.
Ambassador Gong had a bilateral meeting with Mr. Rashid Alimov, Secretary General of SCO, on 9 June 2018 and discussed issues of mutual cooperation between CICA and SCO. Ambassador Gong also held bilateral meetings with heads of international and regional organizations on the issues of mutual concern.
