On 22-23 October 2019 in accordance with the CICA Secretariat’s Work Plan a study visit was organized in Aktau. Representatives from the CICA Member States and Observers visited the Marine Base of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Kazakhstan. The event was convened in the framework of the military-political dimension of CICA work.
As part of the event, Colonel Alibek Kulbayev, Head of Arms Control and Inspection Center of the Defence Ministry of the Republic of Kazakhstan, welcomed the participants.
A presentation on events in the framework of military-political dimension of CICA was presented by Sholpan Yelkeyeva, Member of the Professional Personnel of CICA Secretariat. (Presentation) It is noted that Kazakhstan as the coordinator in the military-political dimension conducted 6 training seminars and organized visits to military facilities in the area of Karagandy, Nur-Sultan, Baikonur Cosmodrome. The People’s Republic of China held an educational workshop on border control, India organized 3 visits of senior Indian officers to the office of CICA Secretariat in Nur-Sultan. Each visit followed by briefing sessions to military attaches of CICA Member States.
The information on the development history and contemporary challenges of the Marine Base was presented by Captain Damir Khairullin.
During the event the briefing session was held on the history of establishment and main objectives of the Naval Base. Moreover, foreign delegations visited the training center for junior naval professionals, museum and damage control training station. The naval ship manufactured by the Republic of Kazakhstan were demonstrated to the guests. It is designed for surface and underwater targets.
Confidence building measures and forms of cooperation in military-political dimension are outlined in the Catalogue adopted by the CICA Member States in 2004.
