CICA Chairmanship - Kazakhstan marks its 30th Anniversary of membership in the United Nations




The Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA) participated in the event, dedicated to commemorate the 30th Anniversary of Kazakhstan’s membership in the United Nations at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the current Kazakh CICA Chairmanship, on 2 March 2022.  

Addressing the diplomatic corps and distinguished guests of the event, CICA Executive Director Ambassador Kairat Sarybay noted: “It is symbolic that one of the main foreign policy initiatives of the Republic of Kazakhstan, aimed at ensuring peace and security, has its origin in the United Nations. On 5 October 1992 the First President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev in his very first statement from the rostrum of 47th session of the United Nations General Assembly put forward an initiative for convening the CICA”.

It was expressed that CICA fully aligns and supports the сall of the UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres to enhance partnerships across all levels for ensuring peace and security in a complex and rapidly changing world, which requires deeper cooperation with regional organizations.

The United Nations Resident Coordinator for Kazakhstan Michaela Friberg-Storey underscored the multilateral initiatives of the Republic of Kazakhstan based on a pragmatic and pro-active foreign policy and its contribution in securing global and regional peace and stability. She also outlined the importance of CICA and its relevance as an effective multilateral mechanism for security and development in Asia.    

All distinguished speakers of the event agreed that current challenges in the world has to be addressed through building dialogue and mutual trust, closer partnership and uniting the synergy of efforts of the international community.
