11 November 2024 – Tehran, Iran – The Islamic Republic of Iran organized the 4th CICA webinar on harm reduction interventions in drug use disorders, bringing together experts from nine CICA Member States. This annual webinar, held by Iran's Drug Control Headquarters in partnership with the University of Tehran since 2021, serves as a platform for advancing strategies within the “Combating Illicit Drugs” priority area under the CICA framework.
The webinar focused on recent developments in harm reduction techniques, presenting participants with the latest scientific achievements and looked at new plan strategies for treatment of various types of drug addiction. Key topics discussed included psychosocial interventions, the role of new technologies in supporting individuals with substance use disorders. Moreover, such important aspects as effective methods of control of drug-use related infectious diseases, especially HIV/AIDS, and opioid substitution therapy were touched upon.
CICA's commitment to сombating illicit drugs is one of the 18 priority areas of the CICA Catalogue of Confidence Building Measures. Iran, as the coordinator in the area of “Combating Illicit Drugs”, is currently actively working with Member States to develop a Concept Paper on cooperation in this critical sphere.
