Astana, 20 May 2025 – An introductory online meeting was held between representatives of the Secretariat of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA) and the Secretariat of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).
Deputy Secretary General of CICA Ms. Zhang Ling and Deputy Secretary-General of ASEAN for Political-Security Community Ms. Astanah Abdul Aziz delivered welcoming remarks to the participants.
The meeting participants highlighted the important roles of CICA and ASEAN in ensuring stability and sustainable development in the Asia-Pacific region. They underlined the significance of coordinating and complementing efforts within the multilateral track on a wide range of issues of mutual interest. In addition, the meeting acknowledged the value of regular exchanges of experience and information between the executive bodies of both platforms.
Both sides shared presentations on the background and structure of the two organizations, as well as the specific features of their Secretariats’ operation. The CICA Secretariat placed special emphasis on the key outcomes of the Kazakh Chairmanship from 2020 to 2024, including the launch of the CICA transformation process, as well as the priorities of the current Azerbaijani Chairmanship.
The parties agreed to continue exchanging information on issues of interest to them through inter-secretariat interaction. The ASEAN representatives invited the CICA Secretariat to take part in several sectoral activities organized by the Association.
