“How to Build Stronger Confidence in Asia and Make CICA More Responsive to the Challenges of the 21st Century”

 

The role of CICA in establishing a universal and comprehensive security architecture in Asia was discussed at the international online conference on How to Build Stronger Confidence in Asia and Make CICA More Responsive to the Challenges of the 21st Century, organized at the UN platform by the Permanent Mission of Kazakhstan to the UN jointly with the CICA Secretariat on April 2, 2021.

CICA Executive Director Mr. Kairat Sarybay noted that the current demand for multilateralism and inclusiveness indicated that Asia had a new decisive role to play. According to Ambassador Kairat Sarybay, CICA was the best platform for consolidating the collective wisdom of all Asian countries in the name of global peace, security and development.

First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan Mr. Shakhrat Nuryshev informed about the progress on the priorities of Kazakhstan’s CICA Chairmanship in 2020-2022, and noted the need for active interaction to further strengthen the political, economic and intercultural dialogue among Asian countries.

UN Under-Secretary-General Mr. Vladimir Voronkov stressed the importance of cooperation of international organizations to seek solutions together to newly emerging and rapidly adapting security threats.

The participants noted the demand for CICA as a platform for promoting mutual trust and interaction aimed at resolving global problems. They emphasized the need for increased connectivity in Asia and united approaches of the regional states, as well as expressed support for the priorities of Kazakhstan's Chairmanship in CICA.

The event was attended by the ambassadors and representatives of the UN Asia-Pacific Group, as well as the member states and observers of CICA.
