Bangladesh, as co-coordinator in the priority area of Natural Disaster Management, organized an online CICA Webinar “Towards Disaster Resilience through Inclusive, Gender-responsive and all of Society Approach; Disaster Prevention, Mitigation and Adaptation approaches Strategies and Practices- Bangladesh Experiences”, on Wednesday, 31 May 2023.

Dr. Md. Enamur Rahman, Member of Parliament, State Minister for Disaster Management and Relief of Bangladesh, Mr. Md. Kamrul Hasan, Secretary, Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief and Mr. Masud Bin Momen, Senior Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Bangladesh, as well as other officials and experts have shared their vision of Bangladesh as a role-model in disaster management, calling for CICA Member States to proactively engage in exchange of best practices, knowledge and real-time data. Special attention was paid to the success of volunteer-based disaster response system developed in Bangladesh and promotion of multi-disciplinary and all of society approach.

Dr.Ugur Turan, Expert of the CICA Secretariat in Environmental Dimension, made a report on CICA’s role and potential in synergizing regional efforts in tackling climate issues and enhancing natural disaster resilience. He proposed to better utilize joint scientific reviews, research and studies. Dr.Turan also reminded the audience about the initiative of the Kazakh Chairmanship to convene a High-level Environmental Conference in Astana in 2024 to identify environmental problems among the CICA Member States.

The discussion further concentrated on cooperation in early warning mechanisms, strengthening international networks and investing in disaster-resilient infrastructure.

Bangladesh has vowed to continue organizing conferences and seminars on environment and disaster management for CICA Member States.
