President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev receives CICA Secretary General




20 June 2024 – Astana, Kazakhstan – CICA Secretary General Ambassador Kairat Sarybay briefed President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev on the progress of Kazakhstan's initiatives and priorities under its current chairmanship of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia from 2020 to 2024.

Ambassador K. Sarybay informed the President about the activities of the CICA permanent bodies and the work being done on the institutional strengthening of the forum. In particular, the Secretary General highlighted the recently agreed draft Memorandum on the Establishment of the Partnership Network of Leading Universities of the CICA Member States for approval by the CICA Ministerial Council. He also noted the progress on initiatives such as the convening of the Rally of Volunteer Movement Leaders of the CICA Member States under the auspices of the CICA Youth Council and the CICA Ministerial Conference on Environmental Issues, the institutionalization of the CICA Finance Summit and the establishment of the CICA Council on Sustainable Connectivity.

The Secretary General emphasized Kazakhstan’s active role in rendering material and personnel support to the CICA Secretariat and the upcoming opening of the organization's new headquarters in Astana, which will be built using state-of-the-art green technologies. The President stated that Kazakhstan would continue to pay particular attention to the activities of the CICA Secretariat and support its work.

The Head of State underscored Kazakhstan's active support for all CICA activities, especially the ongoing process of its transformation into a full-fledged international organization. The Secretary General reported on the development of several documents outlined in the Road Map for Transformation, which was adopted by the Ministerial Council in 2023 on behalf of the Sixth CICA Summit held in Astana in October 2022.

President K. Tokayev underlined the need for further consistent development of CICA by enhancing the efficiency of its permanent structures, as well as expanding its geography and external relations.
