25 September 2025 – An informal meeting of the Ministerial Council of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA) will be convened in New York under the Chairmanship of the Republic of Azerbaijan, on the margins of the High-Level Week of the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly.
The gathering of Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the CICA Member States is expected to reaffirm their collective resolve to advance the organization’s transformation and is set to produce decisions of lasting institutional significance. Foremost among the deliberations will be the consideration and anticipated establishment of two new advisory bodies – the CICA Finance Summit and the CICA Women Council – which are envisaged to broaden the framework of dialogue and cooperation within CICA. In addition, the meeting may give consideration to draft ministerial statements on the relevant thematic issues.
Furthermore, the Council will take stock of the progress made in implementing confidence building measures and other activities. The Council is also expected to review the elaboration process of the draft CICA Charter, which is envisaged to evolve into the constitutional foundation of the organization. The discussions will provide further guidance to the activities of CICA for next year as well as for the preparations of the next CICA Summit to be held in October 2026 in Azerbaijan.
