Astana, 20 May 2026 – The CICA Headquarters in Astana hosted the inauguration of the “CICA Talks: History and Heritage of Asia” lecture series.
Opened by CICA Secretary General Ambassador Kairat Sarybay, the event highlighted the vital role of intercultural diplomacy in navigating today’s complex international landscape. The informal initiative is driven by the understanding that historical awareness and cultural heritage extend far beyond academic study. Instead, it serves as an instrumental tool to shape mutual perception, navigate differences, and build genuine trust for stronger partnerships.

The inaugural lecture was delivered by Dr. Yerzhan Issakulov, Doctor of Political Sciences. His presentation focused on the 14th-century foundational historical source “Jamig at-tauarih” by Rashid-al-Din Hamadani, also known as “The Compendium of Chronicles”, which is widely recognized by the global scientific community as the definitive encyclopedia on the era of Chinggis Khan. A work of literature and history describes cultures and major events in world history from China to Europe.

Dr. Issakulov shared a profound analysis of the historical narratives of the Great Steppe. He highlighted the challenges of interpreting medieval Persian and Mugul manuscripts, explaining how his research – incorporating ancient maps and documentary evidence – presents a comprehensive perspective on the history of Turkic tribes and the empire of Chinggis Khan. He also explored how these texts deepen our contemporary understanding of Eurasian history.
As an initiative dedicated to the diplomatic community in Astana, it seeks to foster intercultural dialogue and build stronger ties. Reflecting this goal, the inaugural event brought together a distinguished audience, including Heads of Mission, accredited envoys, alongside senior officials from international organizations.

Future sessions will seek to engage scholars, historians and experts from various CICA Member States to reinforce the human and intellectual dimensions of multilateral cooperation.
The lecture series is part of a broader framework of initiatives organized by the Secretariat to mark its 20th anniversary, all aimed at fostering mutual understanding and enhancing intercultural dialogue.
