Participants in the Special Working Group (SWG) of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA) conducted a final meeting on 4 October 2022 to prepare the outcome documents of the Sixth CICA Summit to be held in Astana on 12-13 October 2022.
The online meeting chaired by Ambassador-at-Large of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan Talgat Kaliyev took place at the headquarters of the CICA Secretariat.
Following the three rounds of meetings, the SWG made a series of recommendations to the Senior Officials Committee, which will meet prior to the Summit on 10-11 October 2022.
Thus, the SOC will consider the Astana Statement on CICA Transformation, CICA Plan of Action on the Implementation of the United Nations Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy, and CICA Leaders’ Statement on Cooperation in the Field of Security of and in the Use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs).
The Concept Paper and Plan of Implementation of the CICA CBMs “Security of and in the Use of ICTs” for 2022-2023, as well as the Concept Paper on Human Dimension, which have been finalized by the SWG, will be submitted to the SOC for approval.
Summing up the SWG work, Chair Kaliyev informed that the agenda of the upcoming SOC would also include the issue of Kuwait's accession to CICA as a full member, which will be one of the important outcomes of the Anniversary Summit.
