Member States express their support for the transformation of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA) and the initiatives taken within the organization. This was evidenced during the official visit of President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev to the Republic of Kazakhstan on 10 April 2023 as the heads of state signed a joint statement on the results of their negotiations.
The parties stated in the document that they would contribute to “the promotion of the initiative to transform the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia into a full-fledged international organization and the implementation of the initiatives of the Republic of Kazakhstan announced within the framework of the Chairmanship in this Organization.”
It should be noted that Azerbaijan plays an active role in promoting the CICA process and supports its further institutional development. The Republic of Azerbaijan is the coordinator of the priority area “Development of secure and effective systems of transportation corridors” and participates in the implementation of confidence building measures, as well as in the activities of the CICA advisory bodies.
The initiative to transform CICA is a strategic goal of the Kazakh Chairmanship. The Republic of Kazakhstan is taking consistent steps to implement the decisions made at the Sixth CICA Summit last October.
