On 11 April, at the CICA headquarters, CICA Deputy Secretary General Chi Fang received Regional Representative of the UN Office on Drugs and Crime for Central Asia Ms. Ashita Mittal as part of her working visit to Kazakhstan.
The Deputy Secretary General told her UN colleague in detail about the current tasks of CICA, the plans of the Kazakh Chairmanship for 2022-2024, including the implementation of the outcomes of the Sixth CICA Summit, among which are the Leaders’ Statement on Cooperation in the Field of Security of Information and Communication Technologies and the CICA Plan of Action on the Implementation of the UN Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy.
A lively exchange of views took place on the role of Central Asia in the context of strengthening multilateral cooperation in the region. The counterparts discussed ways of mutually beneficial application of CICA and UNODC potential in the fight against new challenges and threats in Asia, emphasizing the relevance of cross-platform interaction and synergy of various regional structures, including the SCO. In this context, Chi Fang presented the CICA Fund, which is currently being launched and which is aimed, inter alia, at the implementation of field projects.
The parties agreed to consider holding joint events in the near future.
UNODC is a CICA partner organization. In 2015, the CICA Secretariat and the Office signed a Memorandum of Understanding.
