Secretary General of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA) Ambassador Kairat Sarybay participated in the 23rd online meeting of the Council of Heads of State of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), which took place on 4 July 2023 and was chaired by the Republic of India. The event brought together heads of the Member States, Observer States and international organizations that enjoy the Observer Status with the SCO.
The SCO Member States support the transformation of CICA into a full-fledged international organization. Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the country which is chairing CICA and will chair the SCO in 2023-2024, stated this in his address at the Summit.
CICA partnered with the SCO in 2014 when the memorandum was signed between the secretariats of the two regional organizations. Moreover, the Protocol on Cooperation between the CICA Secretariat and the SCO Regional Anti-Terrorist Structure was signed in 2017. To date, all SCO Member States are also members of CICA. Regional activities of CICA and the SCO have similar goals and objectives and are complementary in nature.
