CICA Secretary General Ambassador Kairat Sarybay received the Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to the Republic of Kazakhstan H.E. Mr. Cho Tae-ick on 20 December 2023. The meeting marked the voluntary financial contribution by the Government of the Republic of Korea to the CICA Secretariat budget.
The Secretary General expressed his sincere gratitude to the Korean side, which has been making regular contributions to the Secretariat’s budget since 2006. During the Meeting of CICA Senior Officials Committee on 12 December, Ambassador Cho Tae-ick called on all Member States to increase their ownership of the organization by agreeing on regular mandatory contributions that would reinforce the Secretariat and make its functions more sustainable.
Ambassadors Kairat Sarybay and Cho Tae-ick elaborated on the results and effective work of CICA throughout 2023 aimed at implementation of the Sixth CICA Summit decisions on transformation and further institutionalization of CICA. The timeliness of the transformation process was highlighted amidst the expansion of CICA’s role in promoting stability and confidence building in Asia.
The Republic of Korea actively engages in the CICA process in the capacity of coordinator of the priority areas “Energy Security” and “Information Technology” within CICA’s Economic Dimension of Interaction. South Korea has also steadfastly supported the Roadmap for CICA Transformation and actively participated in discussions regarding its 8 clusters.
