A solid foundation for the further progressive advancement of the CICA and productive work of Senior Officials Committee (SOС) was laid following the online meeting of the Special Working Group (SWG) on December 9, 2020, under the moderation of Kazakh Chairmanship of the CICA.
Along with the issues of the five main dimensions of the CICA Catalogue of Confidence Building Measures (human, economic, environmental, military-political and fight against new challenges and threats), special attention was paid to the issues of multilateral cooperation in the fight against the consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic and the exchange of experience in the field of public health and pharmaceuticals of the CICA Member States.
The SWG meeting participants noted the report of the Executive Director of the CICA Secretariat, Ambassador Kairat Sarybay, on the current activities at the Forum and on the issues of implementation of confidence-building measures in 2020.
In addition, the SWG participants discussed a number of Secretariat’s proposals on the improvement of the legal framework of the CICA.
The heads of delegations elaborated SWG’s recommendations on the Agenda issues, including on the Plan for the implementation of confidence-building measures and activities within the CICA and the Secretariat's budget for the year 2021.
At the end of the meeting, the moderator, Director of the Department of Asia-Pacific Region of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Republic of Kazakhstan, Nurgali Arystanov, expressed heartfelt gratitude to the members of the CICA SWG for their constructive approach and spirit of solidarity.
