15 February 2024 - Astana - CICA Deputy Secretary General Zhang Ling participated in an online meeting of the Gender Theme Group organized by the UN Resident Coordinator Office in Kazakhstan.
The meeting discussed the results of a sociological survey conducted by the UNDP and the UN Women in 2023 on gender equality and women's empowerment in Kazakhstan. The meeting participants noted the progress made by Kazakhstan in improving national legislation on the protection of women's rights and children's safety. An exchange of views took place on the preparations for the annual International Women's Day on 8 March.
In her remarks, CICA Deputy Secretary General Zhang Ling noted the relevance of protecting women's rights in the world. She stressed that this matter is of particular importance in the framework of CICA, which, as a pan-Asian intergovernmental forum, has a variety of tools for cooperation on gender issues.
Zhang Ling expressed the readiness of the CICA Secretariat to expand interaction with the UN and other international organizations in this area.
