Online Training Course on Sustainable Tourism Development Launched by CICA in Collaboration with Thailand and Burapha University

Astana, Kazakhstan – 3 June 2024 - An online training program on “Sustainable Creative & Responsible Tourism Development based on the BCG model for CICA countries” was launched, jointly organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand, the Thailand International Cooperation Agency (TICA), the CICA Secretariat, and Burapha University. The programme, continuing until 14 June 2024, aims to equip participants with essential knowledge and skills for sustainable tourism practices, emphasizing the positive environmental, economic, and socio-cultural impacts within the tourism sector.

During the opening ceremony, distinguished speakers welcomed participants from CICA Member States to the training programme. Assistant Professor Dr. Punwalia Kewara, Assistant President for International Affairs, extended a warm welcome, underscoring the significance of the programme in fostering sustainable tourism practices.

Lt. Sorawud Preededilok, Minister attached to the Thailand International Cooperation Agency (TICA), emphasized the role of the Bio, Circular, and Green Economy (BCG) model in promoting efficiency and sustainability within the tourism sector, echoing the commitment of organizing bodies towards responsible tourism.

In her remarks, CICA Deputy Secretary General Ms. Zhang Ling expressed gratitude to the Kingdom of Thailand for spearheading the initiative. She emphasized the programme’s role as a unique platform for knowledge exchange among tourism professionals from CICA Member States, facilitating the dissemination of best practices and innovative approaches.

The comprehensive training programme delves into various aspects of sustainable tourism, including global social, environmental, and economic impacts, integration of tourism research into development strategies, innovation in product development, sufficiency economy philosophy (SEP) application, community-based tourism, eco-tourism, low-carbon destinations, responsible and inclusive tourism, and the incorporation of digital technology in tourism practices. Throughout the course, experts and practitioners will share practical insights and experiences, enriching participants’ understanding and skill sets.

The CICA Secretariat encourages active participation from all Member States, recognizing the invaluable opportunity for industry stakeholders, including professionals, academics, students, and policymakers, to enhance their capabilities in navigating the dynamic landscape of global tourism. Over 48 participants from CICA Member States registered for the programme, reflecting their keen interest and commitment towards sustainable tourism development.
